What I've Learned From Learning New Languages

Language has always fascinated me, not just as a way to communicate, but as a way to connect. Growing up speaking Hebrew, then moving to the U.S. and learning English, I quickly realized how language shapes how we think, feel, and express ourselves. Later, learning Spanish in high school and Italian in university added even more layers to how I see the world.

Each language has taught me something different: Hebrew taught me roots and culture, English gave me creative confidence, Italian showed me warmth and expression, and Spanish reminded me of rhythm and openness. But more than that, learning languages has made me more patient, curious, and understanding of others.

Learning languages has also been one of my favorite ways to challenge myself, not just creatively, but mentally. It keeps my brain sharp, improves memory, and teaches me to think in new ways. I even find myself opening Duolingo just for fun, curious to see how another language sounds or structures ideas differently.

It’s a reminder that communication goes far beyond words — it’s about empathy, listening, and finding common ground, even when you come from completely different places.
